Darwin College Research Associates 2025

Darwin College intends to appoint a number of College Research Associates from 1 October 2025. These positions are tenable for up to three years.

The scheme aims to provide researchers with a substantial association with the College, but such association will not include membership of the Governing Body.

Candidates must be of postdoctoral standing, and may be graduates of any university. They will normally hold a funded position requiring them to conduct research in the University of Cambridge or in a directly associated research institution and the appointment will be co-terminous with that position.

Chef de Partie

Full-time or Part-time 

£28,994,14 (Salary Scale DC21) per annum plus bonus

This is an exciting role within the Catering team at Darwin College.

You will be working with the Head Chef and Catering team to maintain the high standards of the College.

As Chef de Partie you will be responsible for a section and report directly to the Head Chef. You will maintain a healthy awareness of current trends in hospitality and ensure that high levels of customer service are maintained when dealing with customers.

You will be interested in a career in hospitality. You will have experience in running a section of your own and ideally have a good foundation in cookery and presentation skills. The successful applicant will have a NVQ level 2 in professional cookery or similar.

Due to the nature of the role the successful applicant will be expected to work weekends and weekdays on a rota system.

We offer 33 days holiday (including bank holidays), pension scheme, meals on duty, uniform, and the opportunity to work in our award-winning team.

Night Porter

Salary: at least £27,438.71 (pro rota) per annum.

Darwin College is looking for a Porter to represent the College by providing reception, switchboard and general front-of-house services to college members, visitors, and guests with a high standard of professionalism and courtesy. This is an extremely rewarding role as it is often the first point of contact for students and visitors to the college. If you pride yourself on being customer focussed and self-motivating then this is the role for you. Training will be provided.

Working hours

Sunday & Monday

20.00-06.00

20 hours per week

Some flexibility will be required in this post.

Applications would also be considered for either a Sunday or Monday Night position.

Basic hourly rate is £13.19 (Minimum) per hour.

Double time payments are made for working Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s day. Free meals available when on duty when the college kitchens are open. Free access to the gym.

Housekeeping Assistant

 

Darwin College is seeking to appoint a Housekeeping Assistant who will be responsible for keeping the College buildings to the highest cleaning standard in a safe and organised environment.

 

You must be able to work independently, have good attention to detail and have some previous cleaning experience.

Contractual Working hours: 32.5 hours per week

 

Monday – Friday 7am-2pm (includes unpaid half an hour lunch break)

 

In addition, you will be required to work one weekend day per month. This will be paid at time and a half. Weekend hours may vary but will typically not exceed 5 hours.

 

Salary: £12.29 per hour
